Bridge-Gap Between Cultures Prize

Defend International (DI) is pleased to announce that Dr. Widad, co-founder of Defend International, is the recipient of the 2013 ‘Special Prize’ by the National Organisation for Future Generations for "being a passionate advocate of bridging the gap between civilisations and cultures." Dr. Widad dedicated the award to DI members saying she has confidence in their ability to meet challenges into the future.

President of National Organisation for Future Generations (NOFG), Mr. D. El-hadee, who presented the award on December 13, 2013, praised Dr. Widad for her humanitarianism, adding she was honoured today for "her path-breaking initiatives to build bridges between civilisations and cultures through dialogue and collaboration." Before wishing her continued success and progress in 2014, he commended Dr. Widad's strong work ethic and her excellent commitment to a culture of inclusion and diversity.

On receiving the award, Dr. Widad said, "I am glad that our work has been recognised. I have a lot of admiration to civil society activists around the globe, especially members of Defend International. They are all powerful contributors to a culture of human rights and peace."

This highly honourable award seeks to honour exceptional leaders in the MENA region who have made valuable contributions to humanity through the creation of a culture of coexistence and harmony.

Dr. Widad dedicated her award to DI members and thanked them for the contribution they are making to humanity and for the inclusive attitude they have. "I strongly believe that we have exceptional members who do not spare any effort to promote peace and democracy through cultural relations and advocacy," she said. "I am proud of their achievements and have confidence in the teams' ability to meet challenges into the future."
